Purpose
This is a guide on how to coach yourself in fitness, generally with a focus on achieving your body composition goals.
Right off the bat, it should be said nothing here is novel information. . Everything you need to know about training (and really, you don’t need to know that much to achieve good results), is out there in the . The problem is – there’s also a whole lot of bad information. I’ll be making a modest attempt to get you ask further questions yourself to filter some of this out.
I”ll start by defining what’s covered, who this might be applicable to and why you might want to keep reading.
Scope of the guide
This is a series of notes stored on Obsidian relating to how to get fit as an individual, with a predominant focus on resistance training (aka strength training).
If you imagine a simple framework of novice – beginner – intermediate – advanced – elite, this has an emphasis for beginners, novices, and intermediates; probably in that order.
There’s an underlying assumption you’ll have some level of motivation to be healthier, build muscle mass, lose body fat, and/or get stronger. This will be easier accomplished with access to some sort of gym, whether that’s a commercial gym or a well-stocked garage gym, but it is not strictly necessary.
Above all, this is mostly a practical guide.
All of these points will be discussed in more detail in subsequent sections.
And out of scope
- This is not a specialist treaty on a specific strength sport, such as powerlifting, bodybuilding, strongman, Olympic weightlifting, or Crossfit. I hasten to add these are all great endeavours, and we’ll get into this further later.
- This is not a theoretical manual on anatomy, biology, and sports science.
Who’s giving this advice?
The first question you might be wondering is who I am and what credentials I have in giving any opinions on this topic. It’s a fair question, and one I ask everytime I’m reading about something of interest.
I’ll start with some fluff and end with some specifics.
First, I think these compilation of notes is of slight interest because it goes in laborious depth to provide sources of information, and different perspectives are noted and discussed. I don’t pretend to be the final authority on any of this, I have nothing further to sell, and feel free to Google anything and everything stated here.
